Opti-Cide3® Surface Wipes

Intermediate-Level Disinfectant

Introduction

Opti-Cide3 by Biotrol is an EPA registered, intermediate- level disinfectant offered in both liquid and wipe form. The unique, blue wipes are heavily saturated with solution because of the 7-layer design. The surgical grade material will not lint or leave residue, but will deposit enough solution on the desired clinical contact surfaces to remain wet for the required 3 minute contact time. The honeycomb texture efficiently removes debris adding to the overall durability of the wipe.

Conclusion

The CPS evaluation team consisted of twenty offices that were all first time Opti-Cide3 users. Each dental practice received 6 canisters of wipes to use during routine operatory turnover. An estimated 300 infection control procedures were completed in each practice with the test product. The majority of evaluators reported that they prefer both liquid and wipes for their method of disinfection during operatory turnover. When asked what the most important feature in a surface disinfectant was, 40% reported kill time as being the most critical feature. Surface degradation (cracking, discoloration, corrosion, etc) was the second most important feature followed by odor and finally environmental concerns. All commented on the blue color of the wipes which made it easier to see the perforations on the roll. When asked about the saturation, every team member including the laboratory technicians commented, “the wipes contained enough solution to clean all areas needed with just one wipe”. Some of the evaluation team members said “they would like to see the hole larger for easier of removal of the wipes”.
