“Oh Whitening” 20%

A disposable unidose bulb

Introduction

“Opalescence Oh” by Ultradent is a disposable unidose bulb filled with the amount of gel needed for one whitening treatment. Each whitening bulb contained 20% carbamide peroxide patented combination of potassium nitrate and fluoride (PF) for increased enamel strength, minimized sensitivity, and reduced risk of caries.

Conclusion

Out of 124 whitening cases, the CPS evaluation team commented that changing from syringes to pods wasn’t easy. Thorough instructions at the chair are very important at the first whitening treatment to avoid patients overloading the tray and should demonstrate and performed the first whitening treatment on the day trays are delivered. With 16 pods, several evaluators commented that “Oh Whitening” packages contained more whitening material than competitive brands of syringes. 3 evaluators suggested to add in the instructions to tell patient’s when using the “Oh” to keep a constant pressure on the pod as you go around the tray and not lift pod out of the tray. Only 2 patients reported sensitivity with some tissue irritation that went away after a day or so. Most all the patient’s were satisfied with their results with almost all receiving a minimum of 2 ½ shade change or higher. Several said they would give the Oh to patient’s that had already whitened before due to placement technique and would provably use syringes for a first time whitener. Best part about the Oh, easy to travel with the pods and no worries with leakage.
